DESCRIPTION TABLE OF CONTENTS ILLUSTRATIONS REVIEWS

By Dr. Jim Davilla and Art Soltan, this landmark book is the first and only complete coverage of these vitally important Allied aircraft of WWI. Here is a brief description of what you'll find in this massive volume. Click the text links below!

  • 652 over-size (9"x12") pages covering all French WWI aircraft types built and many projects.
  • Lavishly illustrated with 983 black and white photos that were digitally scanned and corrected. Many of the photos are rare and never previously published. Special emphasis is given to rare birds and little-known operational aircraft.
  • There are 185 scale drawings to 1/72 scale (130 aircraft) and 1/144 scale (50 aircraft), plus 5 drawings not to scale. Many of these types have never been drawn before. 34 pages of fold-out drawings allow nearly all operational aircraft types to be shown in 1/72 scale.
  • 30 pages of color include two full-page color paintings, three pages of color photos of museum aircraft, and 25 pages of exceptional color illustrations by Alan Durkota showing 61 aircraft in profile. A dozen aircraft types are shown in French 5-color camouflage-and all but one of these types is shown completely-both sides and the top view, including the top of the lower wings, to provide comprehensive information.
  • Approximately 300,000 words of text provide detailed development and operational histories of the types, including lists of all types used in every escadrille, extensive operational details, and order of battle information never before published in any language.
